The Pottery is a delight to visit, set in ancient buildings that were part of a Domesday Mill, and surrounded by the beautiful peaceful countryside of the Exmoor National Park in West Somerset.
What is special about Mill Pottery is seeing the context in which Michael Gaitskell’s ceramics are made. The informative display of raw materials used for clay and glazes, seeing the potter throwing on the wheel and sometimes firing the unusual two-chambered kiln, gives the visitor a rare insight in the making of pottery. Seeing and knowing something about how the pots are made greatly adds to the appreciation of the pot you may buy.

Environmental concerns have always been important to Mill Pottery and in 1980 Michael installed a new waterwheel to provide power and generate some electricity for the pottery.
Visitors enjoy meeting the maker and it works both ways. Contact with customers has spurred Michael’s creativity, keeping his work relevant and interesting, which is why it remains in demand and is in many collections internationally.
