As a non-commercial Community web site we rely totally on people in the community to send us information and photos that will add to other people's knowledge of Exmoor and its surrounding area. Community Policing Unit
The Community Policing Unit (CPU) is a large motorhome which has been converted into a mobile Police Station. The CPU currently visits approximately 60 villages in the Taunton Deane, Sedgemoor and West Somerset areas. It visits each village every four to five weeks.
West Somerset Community Police Mobile Unit
The CPU staff are Denise Day and Anne Stoneham, who are full-time Community Contact Officers and are based at Minehead Police Station. They are specially trained, professional, approachable and friendly and will listen to local people, raising their concerns with the relevant agencies to get things done.
Their objectives are to improve the accessibility of the police service to rural communities, by providing a regular advertised service and offer public reassurance and reduce the fear of crime in isolated rural communities by:
providing a high visibility presence
offering crime reduction advice
giving reassurance to vulnerable people
working with Neighbourhood Watch, parish Wardens, parish Councils, local police officers and other agencies
